چکیده
In this report we present a case ofprimary yolk sac tumour of the anterior mediastinum in which two dimensional echocardiography showed an extracardiac mass simulating a large pericardial effusion. Mediastinal yolk sac tumour is a rare germ cell neoplasm affecting mainly young men.' The most common presenting symptoms are dyspnoea, cough, and chest pain.2 The prognosis is usually poor, though in this case complete resolution of the tumour has been achieved.

Cardiac tamponade caused by intrapericardial yolk sac tumor in a boy.
Yolk sac tumor rarely involves the pericardium. A 17-year-old boy had a mediastinal mass leading to total obstruction of the superior vena cava with cardiac tamponade and pleural effusion. Further imaging studies and biopsy showed that the origin was a yolk sac tumor. After surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy, no recurrence was noted during a follow-up of 20 months. This report describes the magn...
متن کاملYolk sac primary tumor of mediastino: a rare case in a young adult
Germ cell tumors are rare neoplasms that mostly occur in the gonads, although they can also affect other body sites, especially the anterior mediastinum (50 to 70% of all extragonadal germ cell tumors). We report a case of a primary mediastinal yolk sac tumor, a rare and aggressive germ cell tumors subtype. This was a 38-year-old man who was admitted to Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual "Fr...

Thymoma is the most common neoplasm of the anterior mediastinum and accounts for one quarter of all mediastinal tumours and half of all anterior mediastinal masses. Pericardial effusion may be present in approximately 20% of cases. This report presents a patient with a previously diagnosed thymoma without surgical indication and with poor response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy who had a peri...
متن کاملGiant Mediastinal Germ Cell Tumour: An Enigma of Surgical Consideration
We present a case of 16-year-old male, who was referred from private centre for dyspnoea, fatigue, and orthopnea. The chest radiograph revealed complete opacification of left chest which was confirmed by computed tomography as a large left mediastinal mass measuring 14 × 15 × 18 cm. The diagnostic needle core biopsy revealed mixed germ cell tumour with possible combination of embryonal carcinom...
متن کاملPrimary Pericardial Sarcoma with Right Atrial Invasion and Multiple Bilateral Pulmonary Metastases in a Patient with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer
Primary tumours originating from the pericardium are extremely rare. Previous studies have reported that these tumours account for only 6.7-12.8% of all mediastinal tumours with an overall prevalence of 0.001% to 0.007%. The majority of these tumours are benign lipomas or pericardial cysts. The most common pericardial malignancy is mesothelioma. Sarcomas are soft-tissue mesenchymal malignancies...
